What’s the difference between Undugu, Marafiki, and Pili?
-
Each coffee is fully traceable to a specific farm (and in some cases a defined block), with processing and lot separation managed and documented from harvest through roaster delivery. These coffees are selected for clarity, elegance, and expression of place.
Undugu is offered to roasters who value terroir-driven profiles, clear origin storytelling, and clean, consistent quality in the cup.
What you can expect
Single-estate traceability with full transparency
Tight lot separation and clear documentation
Specialty-grade coffees selected for cup clarity, character, and balance
-
These coffees meet the same specialty thresholds and maintain the same single-estate traceability and transparency as Undugu, but are typically selected from a different picking or processing window and cup slightly differently than the primary Undugu selection from the same estate.
In practice, this might mean a clean, defect-free AA lot from the same farm or location, separated due to harvest or processing timing. The cup profile is still clearly specialty, but slightly softer and more approachable.
What you can expect
The same single-estate traceability and documentation as Undugu
Specialty-grade cup quality, typically a step below the top estate selection
A more accessible way to work with a specific estate without compromising transparency or integrity
-
These origin-defined (typically county-level) lots are built for repeatability and stability, while remaining fully traceable and ethically sourced.
Marafiki is built for roasters who need dependable profiles and volume without stepping away from origin integrity.
What you can expect
Traceable, origin-defined lots designed for consistency at scale
Stable, repeatable profiles suited to blends, espresso programs, and year-round offerings
Clear documentation and straightforward buying
-
These coffees meet the same specialty thresholds and follow the same traceability approach as Marafiki, but are typically harvested at different times or drawn from different lots. They cup slightly differently than the primary Marafiki selection, while still performing strongly in practical roasting applications.
What you can expect
The same traceability and transparency as Marafiki
Specialty-grade quality optimized for value and performance
Strong value for roasters seeking consistency and price-performance, especially for milk-forward drinks, cold brew, and blend structure
